Holiday Party

For our holiday party we made reindeer food and enjoyed one another's company.  The kids really liked making the reindeer food and hearing the story about why we were making it.  Have your student tell you why we made it.
We had tons food!  I just made a little buffet on our reading table and let the students serve themselves.  They thought they were pretty big being able to choose what they wanted.
I didn't get any pictures of the kids making the reindeer food since I was helping them make it.
We had a lot of fun at our holiday party.

Polar Express Day

The week before Christmas break we had our Polar Express day.  This is the day that the students experience this magical journey and compare and contrast the movie from the book.  The kids did a great job all day.  We made bells, got golden tickets, and made a drawing of what they would see if they were on the Polar Express.

Computer Time

Most Fridays, we are able to go to the computer lab and play on the computers.  The kids really enjoy this time and learn a lot while they are in there.  We go to Starfall.com and work on letters, sounds, and reading and we just started working with Type to Learn Jr. This program helps the students with keyboarding skills.  This is a great time to watch the students learning.

Thanksgiving Feast

Last Tuesday, we had our annual Thanksgiving Feast at Scott.  I can honestly say that this was the longest table we have ever set up for the feast.  The students had a great time!  They really enjoyed being able to prepare their own food and then eat it.  They were so proud of themselves and we were to!
The best part of my day was when one of students said, "Look, I'm an Indian!" as they were making their cornucopia in our classroom.  It just showed me that they had learned why we were doing this activity.
I hope this is an activity they will remember about always.

Recess Time!

Even though it is cold outside, the kids still look forward to recess and enjoy it just as much!

Reading Time

When the kids get done with work, they get to get a book from either the library cart or library bucket to look at or even read until we move onto something else.  They are really enjoying this time right now.  They are finding popcorn words in the books, reading to each other, and even making up their own stories with the books.  This is a great time for them to explore the world of reading even more!
Here is a little girl really into her book.
Here is one of the girls practicing to be a teacher when she grows up.  The three boys are really listening to her story!

Goodbye to Friends

As everyone knows, we are adding another section of Kindergarten starting on Monday, November 17th.  We will be saying goodbye to six of our friends that will be moving to Mrs. Woolston's class starting on Monday.  It has been great having each and every one of them in class.  Each child brings a very special aspect to our classroom and will be missed greatly.  We will get to see our friends at recess, lunch, and  be back together for Art, Music, and P.E.
Although this is a sad time for us it is also going to be a very positive move for every student.  The class sizes will be reduced from 25 or 26 to 19 or 20 students in each.  The kids will be able to have more one on one attention and work in smaller groups.  We wish the best of luck to our six friends that will be moving to Room #4 with Mrs. Woolston!

Fall Party!

On Tuesday afternoon we had our Fall Party.  The kids participated in four centers.  We made treat bags, decorated pumpkins, colored a fun Halloween page, and of course, had our treat station.  The students really got into the pumpkin decorating.  They had all sorts of items they could decorate with and just kept on gluing and drawing until the buzzer went off to go to the next station.
Thanks so much to the parent volunteers that came to the party to help!  You were great help!

Here they kids are working on their treat bags so they have something to put all their goodies in.  They weren't able to eat all their sweets at school.  Thanks to everyone who sent stuff in for the class!

Pumpkin Day Dads

On Tuesday morning we had our annual "Pumpkin Day Dad's." This is a time for the students' dads to come in and carve a pumpkin with a small group of kids. We had four Dads volunteer their time to come participate in this activity and it meant so much to the students. We also had Mr. Olmstead and Officer Strong carve a pumpkin with a group of students. It really surprised me when some of the kids did not like pulling the inside of the pumpkin out. I got quite a kick out of some of the kids reactions.
Here is Officer Strong and his group with their final pumpkin.
Mr. Olmstead and his group of students with their completed pumpkin.
Here are two of the girls ready to dig in to pull the seeds out. These girls pulled seeds one time and then they were done. They were more interested in collecting the seeds from the tables and putting them in baggies. They decided they were going to go home and plant the seeds so they could grow their own pumpkins for next year.
These two girls couldn't get enough of cleaning out the pumpkin. They really enjoyed it!
As you can see in this picture, the little guy was not expecting the feeling of the inside of the pumpkin. He kept digging though. He enjoyed it!

Trunk or Treat

Friday night was Trunk or Treat at Scott Elementary. The students were able to come and trick or treat a few days early. They were suppose to be able to get candy from different car trunks but it was too wet and cold. So, it was moved into the cafeteria and the kids has just as much fun!
I had quite a few students come from our class. We had a Ninja, Zorro, Princesses, Cinderella, a Witch, and Hannah Montana. It was great to see the kids in their Halloween costume and in a different setting than our classroom. We all had a great time!

Red Ribbon Week

This week is Red Ribbon Week at school.  We have been talking about other things we could do instead of drugs.  The kids have come up with some great ideas.  On Friday, they drew pictures of something they would do instead of drugs and the drawings were hung outside the counselor's office.  You will be able to view those at parent teacher conferences next Wednesday and Thursday.
Monday was show your spirit.  We had a lot of red in our class on Monday.
Tuesday was wear something shows an activity you would do instead of drugs.  We had cheerleading, football, baseball, soccer, music, art, and dance.
The kids are really getting into the spirit days.
Wednesday is Hat Day!
Thursday is Patriotic Day!
Friday is Belton Pride!  (Have your student wear the new Scott Elementary shirt they got from PTA!)

Field Trip Make-up

Since our field trip was partially rained out on Friday, Johnson Farms came to us on Monday.  Farmer Jean and her son Noah came out to talk with our kids and even brought in some animals from the farm.  She brought a 1-month one goat named Annie and 2 1-week old chicks named Tom and Jerry.  The kids really enjoyed it!  The kids were also given free passes to the farm!

The students feeling the hay that Annie Goat eats.
The kids learned to pet the chicks with one finger so they wouldn't hurt them.  They did really good waiting their turn to pet the animals.
There favorite was Annie Goat.  She kept yelling out when Farmer Jean was talking.  The kids found that pretty funny!
